Trump Calls Families of Injured Guard Personnel to the White House

Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.

He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Incident

Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.

Presidential Invitation

The president stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Public Reaction

Attendees came together over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in the capital.

Remembering the Soldier

“She was the kind of student that instructors desired. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” the principal, the head of her alma mater, told the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”

Memorial details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.

Legal Steps and Policy Changes

Authorities have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while armed.

The event prompted the administration to suspend asylum applications and cease granting entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of the Airman

The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.

He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told a news show that she aimed to meet with his relatives.

Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, according to the state guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” the governor informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
