The Video Platform Grants Users Power to Reduce Artificial Intelligence-Made Videos in Personal Streams

Users will soon have a new feature that permits them to reduce the amount of AI-created content appearing in their streams. This initiative comes as the platform revealed that it now features over 1 bn AI videos.

Testing and Rollout

The new functionality is being tested over the coming weeks before a global rollout. This development coincides with a rise in AI-generated material, spurred by emerging video-generation tools.

AI Content on Other Platforms

Studies have shown that nearly one in 10 of the quickest rising content creators on a popular video site primarily display content made by AI. A significant portion of this output is deemed mass-produced AI material, a term for inferior, bulk-generated content that is often nonsensical or dreamlike.

“We know from our community that a lot of users like content created using AI tools, ranging from digital art to science explainers, and we want to provide users the ability to increase or decrease of that, depending on their own preferences,” stated a platform representative.

AI on the Platform

The platform announced that there are currently 1.3bn videos on its network tagged as made with AI. Collectively, more than 100 mn media items are uploaded to the platform daily, making AI content a limited part of its complete catalog.

Customizing Your Feed

Users will be able to limit or boost the level of artificial media they see by using the topic control feature in the platform and picking “AI-generated content”. Other topics that are already be adjusted under the filter cover news, clothing, cosmetics, and movement.

Content Labeling and Policies

The platform’s rules mandate content makers to tag convincing AI-made content, and it forbids dangerous fake videos of public figures or critical incidents. Any realistic AI video that is without a tag can be taken down under its community policies.

Additionally, the platform will now attach an artificially created tag to content made using its built-in AI features, or detected by an cross-platform project for identifying content made by AI. This action is aimed to deter users from seeking to evade the labeling process.

Educational Initiatives

The platform is furthermore launching a two million dollar AI literacy fund for experts and institutions to develop learning resources about responsible artificial intelligence. This project will benefit charitable organizations focused on training coding and technology.

Platform Protection

TikTok has defended its safety measures, during discussion over plans to lay off hundreds of review team members in Britain. TikTok is expected to cut a significant number of roles in its user protection department in the UK capital, with labor groups and online safety experts raising concerns that humans are being replaced by automated systems.

A company official clarified that staff-based oversight would remain essential, but AI can safeguard staff by eliminating the most graphic content ahead of it has to be seen by humans. The company reported a 76% decrease in shocking and graphic content reviewed by content reviewers over the last 12 months due to intervention by its AI tools.

We believe it is crucial to integrate staff and AI to ensure user safety,” she said. “We’ll have staff as integral to the approach, but we further consider it’s extremely critical to reduce exposure to unsafe media as rapidly, which is where a lot of the machine support is proving valuable process content quickly.”
