Soccer Analyst Chris Sutton Battles Singer Murs in Premier League Forecasts

The Gunners' 10-game victorious streak was ended by Sunderland before the global break, but can the English top division frontrunners bounce back against local foes Tottenham this Sunday?

"{I believe like Arsenal are miles ahead of Tottenham currently but Spurs manager Thomas Frank will have a strategy for this game," stated soccer expert Chris Sutton.

"Frank will attempt to neutralize Arsenal, who have not always been at their sparkling finest this season - but Mikel Arteta's side typically still find a way to win."

Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this term, against artificial intelligence, fans and a range of special visitors.

For the twelfth round, he takes on performer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United fan.

Murs' new record, Knees Up, is out on Friday.

Football and Family Life

Murs is a talented footballer as well as a successful artist and has been a star of several charity football matches down the years - but he is not intending a serious return as a player.

"{I actually played in a benefit game the other evening for a mate of mine," he said. "The team was trailing 3-1 when I came off in the 60th minute, and they went on to win 4-3, so you can interpret that what you want!

"I continue to love football, but I hurt my joint a few years ago and it still hasn't fully recovered. I wish I could play more but the unpredictability of the sport means it's too risky for me in my profession to do it seriously again.

"Plus I am 41 now, and we are not all Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very content not playing football and I am gearing up for the moment that my daughter or boy decides to play instead."

The singer and his wife Amelia Tank have a young family, their daughter and Albert, and he is ready to follow in his father's footsteps by taking on the role of their manager.

"I won't push football on our kids but I've already told my wife that if they do get the bug for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will probably be coaching their Saturday soccer side," he said.

"I watched my nephews play a lot, and I really got into it, and I obviously owned a football club for a period too.

"My dad coached with us when I was a child, which is likely where I get it from. He coached our side for two or three years and had great fun with it. That could be the next step for me as well, and I am excited to it!"

Top Division Forecasts

Weekend, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea may have to be patient for Cole Palmer's comeback from fitness issues but their offense is already stronger with Joao Pedro and Delap both returned to fitness.

In my opinion this fixture will be fairly close, however. Burnley are well organised and their only home defeats so far have been against Liverpool and Arsenal.

This smells of a 1-1 draw to me, but I am in fact going to choose Chelsea to win narrowly for what would be their third consecutive league win in a row.

Sutton's prediction: 1-2

Olly's prediction: Chelsea will be superior. 1-3

AI's outlook: 0-2

  • Vitality Stadium, 15:00 GMT

The Cherries have lost their previous couple matches - although both of them were on the road - but they got absolutely spanked by Aston Villa last time out which surprised me.

In contrast, West Ham won back-to-back victories before the international break and, although both of those fixtures were at their stadium, they do look competitive again.

West Ham's sole on the road win this season came at Forest in August, when their manager Nuno was still Forest manager.

So, what exactly do I go with here - can the Hammers continuing their run under their manager, or Bournemouth bouncing back?

I am going to choose Bournemouth, because I believe what happened against Villa was a anomaly.

Sutton's forecast: 2-0

The guest's prediction: Bournemouth are doing well but the visitors have improved under their boss. 2-2

The algorithm's pick: 1-1

  • Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT

The Bees were seen as one of the frontrunners for relegation before the season started, but they have impressed a few observers under their manager and are in good form with three wins in their last four games.

A family member advised me to get Brentford striker Igor Thiago in my fantasy soccer team a few weeks back and, guess what, I ignored the advice.

The forward will likely score again on the weekend but I am nonetheless not going to select him or back the away side at Amex Stadium.

The Bees have not had great success on the road this season, and Brighton are consistently strong at their stadium. Brentford will try to attack on the counter-attack but I think the home manager's side pose much more of a threat.

Sutton's prediction: 2-1

The singer's view: This could be one of those games where you think there is going to be a lot of goals but it in reality proves to be rather tight. 1-1

The computer's outcome: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a massive game for the Cottagers, who have suffered defeat in five of their past six games.

Fulham have have lots of quality in their team but it nonetheless feels like they could be sucked into a relegation fight.

As for the Black Cats, indeed they are the unexpected success of the Premier League season so far.

The away side's performance in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal last time out was excellent. We've not seen anyone else rough up the Gunners like that this season, and they were more than a match for them.

The sensible thing would be to back the visitors here, because they are obviously capable of roughing Fulham up too and, the previous occasion they were in this part of London, they defeated the Blues at the end of last month.

However I am not going to do that. Rather, I truly need to carry on opposing the away team with my predictions. I am taking a lot of credit for their positive outcomes because they evidently love to defy my predictions.

Considering Fulham's home record, the only side they have been defeated by is Arsenal. Their manager's side will be absolutely desperate for a good result, so I am going to say they will secure three points.

Sutton's forecast: 1-0

Olly's prediction: I know Sunderland are doing well and also that Fulham are on a poor run... but Fulham have nonetheless been respectable at Craven Cottage this campaign. 2-0

The algorithm's prediction: 2-0

  • Anfield, 15:00 GMT

This is a hard one to call. The Reds have lost seven of their past 10 games in every tournament, but might they be one of the teams who benefit from the {international break|
