Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position following another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach stated.

“It's important to change things and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”

He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so let’s see.”

Recurring Problems and Squad Response

Slot highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with performances like these.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”

“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
