Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
